6 things to give attention in mid-pandemic work environment

6 things attention mid pandemic
  1. Updating technical skills:

You know what they say in sales: “Always be closing”.

The saying amongst white collar workers should be “always be up-skilling”. With highly competitive job scenario, it is always advisable not to sit around for long and do focus on gaining new skills or learning the existing area you are working on in deep. In each sector, as you gain more knowledge, you will experience that there is so much more to learn.

  1. Enhancing soft skills:

With remote communication becoming the default mode of communication these days, it is high time to work upon the not-so-focused soft skills.

Soft skills are more than communication skills. They include team work, work ethics, time management, conflict resolution and many more. Have a look at our post on soft skills here: https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:6730427112097927168

The first step to enhance the soft skills is to believe that you can improve these skills with awareness and practice. You have to move away from their self-limiting beliefs which stop them from improving. Thoughts like “I am no good”, “I cannot learn anything” should be ditched by believing yourself and giving yourself as much exposure as possible- join a club-Toastmasters, OpenWings Circle (https://qgc.e71.myftpupload.com/circle/)and give yourself an opportunity to learn and enhance soft skills.

With your social circle still majorly online and work pressure getting increased, it is crucial to keep your mind healthy. Your healthy mind is good for yourself, your colleagues, your family members and for all the people you are connected too.

Health is wealth and that includes mental health as well.

5. Communicating with team mates:

Gone are the coffee machine & water cooler chats. With even more work while working from home, professionals are finding less time to interact with their colleagues.

This is not the ideal condition for team dynamics. Colleagues are not just icons to click on and chat when needed. It is the informal talks and team lunches, team outings and meets that create a healthy, collaborative and supporting team.

There should at least be a weekly fun activity where the team members can interact with each other and talk about things beyond work.

  1. Working on the skills you lag in:

You feel you are less confident in any scenario which requires you to speak publicly?

You feel you are unable to put your point forward during any meet?

You feel you are not good in handling workplace conflicts?

Now is the time you can work upon these skills. Have a look at point 2 again. The more you participate, the more you are aware about your skills and the more likely you are to enhance your skills.

In the ever changing work scenario in this harsh time, it is imperative to focus upon yourself, survive and thrive.
